In the summer of 2023, a three second window opened while I was driving my 2015 Subaru Forester westbound on I-80, Omaha, NE. My bite size SUV crested a hill at the exact moment a full-sized, 400-lb semi wheel (see pic above) - from a back dually position - catapulted over I-80’s center barrier headed directly towards the midpoint/center
In the summer of 2023, a three second window opened while I was driving my 2015 Subaru Forester westbound on I-80, Omaha, NE. My bite size SUV crested a hill at the exact moment a full-sized, 400-lb semi wheel (see pic above) - from a back dually position - catapulted over I-80’s center barrier headed directly towards the midpoint/center of gravity of my Forester’s front hood.
The impact forcibly compressed my spine, the airbags torched my left wrist, and a piece of shrapnel from the impact perforated my right ear drum.
This accident became the unexpected catalyst for the EARTHQUAKE THERAPY Practice Handbook.
Needless to say, I feel incredibly fortunate to be alive to document the therapeutic reflections/practices within EARTHQUAKE THERAPY.
By a stroke of well-timed luck, I set a personal intention approximately 2 weeks BEFORE the traffic accident. I did not know at the time, but setting this intention was a drastically meaningful life decision.

THE INTENTION =
“I Live with Love & Compassion.”
To document the results & creative side effects of the above intention, I texted myself messages (yes, you are reading this correctly… texts from myself to myself). Simply put, the EARTHQUAKE THERAPY Practice Handbook is a list of in-real-time reflections of present tense moments within the context of my own post-traumatic psychological growth AND necessarily includes input from various members of The Family Krick.

When I put on my professional hat, I work as a licensed mental health therapist heavily influenced by my current experience as a husband/parent & past experience as a competitive athlete.
In therapy sessions, people sometimes ask me for advice when they face various life scenarios... The people I work with are surprised when I respond with the following phrase, “My professional role is to not give you advice... rather to walk alongside & support you as you experience the consequences of your thoughts, emotions, and behavioral habits.
Long story short, this handbook is intended to function as the first official “advice” I have ever produced for mass consumption & evidence that it is possible for us to use states of openness, vulnerability, courage & creativity as tools for improving ourselves (and our relationships with significant others).
We are all forged by "the human experience" - it is my personal and professional belief that therapy happens when we become more mindful of how our present moment (i.e., being) interacts with our past experiences & emerging experience (i.e., becoming).
From a behavioral health perspective, each day presents us with opportunities to learn. It’s truly up to us whether or not we acknowledge our moment-to-moment experiences as learning opportunities.
